FESTIVITIES 2010 CONCERT REVIEW Minimize

Chichester Symphony Orchestra goes from strength to strength under the musical direction of Michael Walsh.

Once again displaying their professionalism and versatility, they are easily one of the very best amateur orchestras in the south.

They produced and exquisite and atmospheric performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 for their Festivities concert.

The Chichester musicians responded with joy and enthusiasm to the opportunity to play this supreme work from the master musical story teller. All sections of the orchestra deserve praise for their outstanding contribution but it is the percussion group who deserve special mention. Their energy and enthusiasm made the jubilant finale second to none. Particular praise to the side drum player and cymbal player who must have been exhausted by their contribution.

In an inspired and imaginative presentation, the versatile and much loved actress, Patricia Routledge showed another great skill. This time as the storyteller in a very persuasive adaptation of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. The Chichester orchestra and Patricia Routledge were an ideal combination bringing back happy memories to many in the audience and fresh joy to the children.

The third outstanding work in this excellent programme was an exciting and descriptive version of the Hary Janos Suite by Zoltan Kodaly.
